market research for small business?

Hi I am planning to move my family to a new city in canada.I amgoing to visit the city in next couple of days to evaluate it if it a good place or not for family. I will be looking at stats like crime rate,schools, cost of living and so on.But also I am planning to open a business in that city.my question is what would some one look for if he want to move to a city to open a business .and what are good sources of info either on web or in the city like city halls where some one can gather some useful stats for business point of view . like demographics, average salary, umemployment rate and and stuff about differnt industries.thanks any ideas will be great.
